Dogs And Rawhides

6 Mar

IMG_0761

We’ve been friends for years, I raised him from a pup. We’ve moved together, been through breakups together, usually we vacation together. I feed him, he loves me. I pet him, he loves me. My nieces know and love him like the part of the family that he is. I can’t imagine my life without this guy, he is literally my reason for getting out of bed.

Any Fruit Cobbler Recipe

5 Mar

IMAG1366

This is a recipe that I got from my mom. I grew up in the country, and behind the barn at the end of the field there was a fence row that grew huge blackberries. We would eat blackberries until we were sick of them, and then keep eating them. We never did any upkeep on the blackberries except to mow it back once in a while, and every year it would come back bigger and produce more. I can’t remember when they started dying out, but it was probably around the same time that I became a teenager and stopped caring about them so much. I’ll make blackberry cobbler later, when they’re in season. Last night I made strawberry cobbler.

Diy Tea Organizing

4 Mar

Hi there tea drinkers! If you are reading this I assume you have also longed for a little more organization in the tea area. I never longed for such a thing until I suddenly found myself with four boxes of tea. My kitchen is rather small and cupboard space hardly exists, so I really didn’t have anywhere to put them. They stayed on the counter underneath the little shelf that holds my coffee pot and supplies, no room for anything else up there.

Novice Phone Photographer

3 Mar

I am a novice phone photographer. We all are to an extent, obviously the extent would be those of you with real photography training, instruction and experience. I have taken pictures with my phone for years, but my real love is close-up photography of unexpected items. It all started with a piece of onion. As a waitress I see a lot of dropped little pieces of food. I was waiting in the window for my food one afternoon when I noticed a little piece of onion laying on the top shelf. It had fallen from something and was just laying there, waiting until it would be wiped into the trash. I couldn’t let it happen, I took my dumb phone out of my pocket and attempted to get a picture of the little piece of onion in all its glory. It was horrible, it looked as if I was losing my vision and I was able to capture what things look like to me with a camera. I wondered if I was hallucinating the beauty of this piece of onion.

Wine In The Grocery Store

2 Mar

As you may or may not know, Tennessee has some peculiar liquor laws. It’s decided county-by-county whether or not to serve alcohol in restaurants. Some counties are completely dry, and some counties sell beer but don’t have liquor stores. As a seasoned drinker, waitress and a six-year resident, I know the alcohol laws in Nashville pretty well now.

Beef Stroganoff

2 Mar

IMG_20130302_005301

As I have stated more than once before, I am the queen of late night dinners. Tonight I made beef stroganoff, ready just before midnight. As you may have heard we are expecting a couple of inches of snow here in Nashville, but it’s 1am and I haven’t seen a snowflake. It’s °33 so even if it does snow, it’s not exactly going to be debilitating.

Another Belt Makeover

28 Feb

This is my old belt.

IMAG1222

Cute yes, but I think it’s a little pirate-like for me. The sparkly shirt behind it was my inspiration. I wear a lot of black and I wanted something to help break it up, like a big shiny bow!

Diy Fingerless Gloves

28 Feb

My last table of the day Wednesday was a guy and a girl, about my age, that appeared to be on one of their first few dates. He was southern and well-mannered. She was beautiful and mysterious looking. Long dark-blonde wavy hair, little to no makeup and a throaty voice. We chatted about local beers and other bars around the city. When they left I found her gloves in the seat. I scanned the parking lot but they were gone. I put her gloves aside so she could reclaim them one day, but not before I admired the shabby finger-less cut she had given them. They were cute, with a little brown button on each one.

So I ripped them off. I started with my white gloves that I always wear.

I cut an inch off of each one of the fingers, then I used a lighter to burn the edges. It keeps them from fraying and I think it looks edgier than it would if I just hemmed them.

Vintage Apron Revamped

25 Feb

My craft partner in crime Kate gave me this sick vintage apron.

IMAG1183

It was literally coming apart at the seams. It had no pockets, and it was at least eight inches too long for me. Did I mention that the straps on top were held on with safety pins? The apron itself was amazing though, and the extra material would be enough to make pockets!

Stud Your Shit!

24 Feb

I recently came into a little pile of assorted studs.

IMAG1161

Kate brought them over last Saturday for our craft brunch and I have been trying to decide what to do with them since. I put my old jean jacket on Bridgette so I could decide where the studs should go.
