I feel rather busy, yet I can’t help but let the little things catch my eye.
Snail For A Day
20 MayI was gardening yesterday when I spotted this little guy on the patio. No bigger than my thumbnail and the same color as the concrete, I have no idea why i noticed him. He was so active that I watched him for a while and took some video. I saw him move that little stick without a problem.
It’s hard to explain the feeling I get from something so simple and small. Something that goes otherwise unnoticed, but today became a part of the actual world wide web. His whole life this little snail could have gone along without a person actually seeing him, but I saw him. I named him Carney.
Lettuce, Fear and Growth
14 MayThe Mesclun mix of lettuce really is growing! It’s doing so well that I planted more! It’s my dream to grow most of my food. I get so freaked out when I read the ingredients lists on packaged food or when I think about the chemicals that could be involved when growing produce on enormous farms. I try not to buy things that are not from the United States, but only because I only know that we regulate the amount of chemicals in our food and food from out of the country has different regulations. There was a time a few months ago when the citizens of the United States were instructed by the news/media not to buy orange juice from out of the country. Not because there were chemicals in it, but because the chemicals were higher than the amount that we legally allow into our food. It’s scary, really scary. I even worry about the safety of the food that I grow because I live in the city, with all the pollution and emissions and such.
My Lettuce Is Growing!
1 MayQuite a few weeks ago I planted some lettuce. I have never had much success with lettuce and I thought I would give it a shot just like I do every year. This is my progress.
Last week
Pretty puny huh?
Sprouted Seeds And Plant Sex
10 MarMy first year as a gardener I watched my seeds so closely that I believe I actually saw them growing. I watched them unfold from the moist soil and push their way through, striving to get to the sun. Four years later I still get up every morning like a kid on Christmas to see if they have sprouted yet. I got up this morning and went to the kitchen to find over half of my seeds had come to life!
