In just 8 days, 87 very generous people were able to fully fund a much-needed new roof for my good friends. Most people are good, don’t ever let overwhelming reports by the news and media sway you into thinking otherwise.

Help Put A New Roof On A House That Needs It

5 May

This is Danny Proctor, close personal friend. If you recall I hosted a surprise birthday party for Danny a few months ago and wrote about throwing a party in a small space. Danny is in dire need of a new roof, please read his story and visit his GoFundMe site.

Raindrops keep falling on our heads! We have major leaks in our very old roof that require more than patching. We need a new roof ASAP!

Long story short: I had surgery for prostate cancer in 2006. No more cancer. In March 2009, my housemate and partner Daryl Pike was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. After chemo and then going into remission, he relapsed and required a stem cell bone marrow transplant in May 2011.

The good news: Daryl’s cancer is gone! The bad news: Daryl has been unemployed since May 2011 and I quit my full-time job three years ago to be his required 24/7 caregiver. We have no health insurance (we’ve exhausted all options, believe me) and very limited income. I’m working from home making what money I can.

A friend in the roofing biz gave us an estimate for a new roof. The $6,000 will cover the materials, labor etc plus any incidentals (such as gofuncme.com’s fees). We want to install a metal roof, which is recommended for a low-pitch roof, plus the economic value. Any mold, fungus etc. can be dangerous to Daryl’s new immune system so we can’t have rain literally dripping on his bed anymore. My friend has patched the roof twice, stopping the kitchen and bathroom leaks, but the leak over Daryl’s bed is still there.Between Daryl and myself, we have nearly 4,000 Facebook friends. A few dollars each would give us this roof that we desperately need.

Believe me, begging is a last-ditch effort. Please forgive us but know anything anyone can give would be a blessing.
