Even though I don’t like it (at all) I have been lightly watching the show Nashville. I live in Nashville (the city not the show) and I thought that I wanted to see how they were portraying our little city. I mainly just leave the show on while I am sewing or doing something that takes up part of my attention. I do not intend to watch past the first season, if there is one.
All that being said, I came home from work yesterday to find this notice on my mailbox.
So I was “watching” an episode a couple of weeks ago and I saw the little blonde girl (Scarlett I’m pretty sure) wearing this fantastic slip dress type of thing underneath of a sweater. The slip came down long enough to make the sweater into a dress, kind of, but it inspired me to create something similar. I had this old white slip dress/nightgown from Kate, and I definitely forgot to take a picture of what it looked like before.
I made a ruffled edge out of some tulle and a roll of bias tape. The dress had already been cut short and there was no hem at the bottom, this covered it and added a little length. I removed the ties that went around the midsection, that always makes me feel like a little girl, not sexy. I used some of the pieces from the ties and I made little ties for the sleeves because they were too long and kept sliding off my shoulders. I gathered the area where the strap meets the dress because the boobs were too big, then I put a little dart up the middle of each cup. It seems like a lot of work, but it didn’t really take that long. The finished product looks like this.
It will go under other things, like this old thrift store find.
It could go with this skirt from Forever 21 (minus the clothespins).
The possibilities are endless, I love my new slip dress petticoat thing! If I had to skim a few hours Nashville in exchange for this lovely thing then I think it was worth it, but now they’re coming to shut down my street!
Amazing where inspiration can come from. The slip dress looks fantastic.
Thank you so much! I agree, it strikes at the strangest times, and it’s completely uncontrollable.. I love it!
have you considered doing something along the commercial route. I found a group in England called Remade by Leeds on pinterest.
I haven’t, I am looking it up while replying to you lol, thanks!
